One's MTR is a key factor relative to decisions that involve taxation of contributions to (and distributions from) retirement or other savings accounts. Avoiding Roth 401(k) Compliance & Administration PitfallsBackgroundPPA 2006 permanently extended the Roth 401(k) feature which means that more employers will opt to add this feature to their new and existing plans. The Roth 401(k) feature permits all plan participants, regardless of their adjusted gross income, to make elective contributions to their 401(k) plans on an after-tax basis. These elective contributions plus any gains on the selected investments accumulate 100% income tax free, and all qualified distributions from these accounts are 100% income tax free. ObjectiveThis 2-hour seminar, originally presented at the 2007 ASPPA Annual Conference and now part of ASPPA's C-4 exam study guide, outlines how to avoid compliance and administration pitfalls when implementing, communicating and administering the Roth 401(k). It provides guidance with regard to all Roth 401(k) related issues from payroll deduction to distributions, including plan document and notice requirements, administrative procedures, testing and reporting requirements and marketing recommendations. Case study examples illustrate how the Roth 401(k) affords planning opportunities for plan participants of all income levels, and why it provides significant retirement and estate planning opportunities for high income taxpayers. This seminar provides information to assist employers and/or their advisors in determining if the Roth 401(k) is an appropriate feature to add to their new or existing qualified retirement plan. And to assist plan participants in determining if the Roth 401(k) is preferable when compared to a pre-tax 401(k). Webinar Description
